New HOYA HD2 Series Filters: UV Filter, Protector and High-Trans Circular Polarizer
The new HOYA HD2 series filters make its debut, as announced by Kenko, Tokina U.S.A. Among the features of the new series are a UV filter, a transparent Protector filter and a High-Trans circular polarizer. The HD2 series increases the offerings of the range of sizes available and includes a Life-Time Limited Warranty on the UV and Protector filter plus a High-Trans Circular Polarizer. The new series builds on the successful and industry-leading Hoya HD series with Hoya’s exclusive hardened optical glass.
Mirrorless cameras have been all the rage since they were introduced to the market a few years ago. The HD2 series was conceived to meet the growing assortment of compact sized professional lenses that are offered for these systems. Standard sizes starting at 37mm and going as large as 82mm will be made available for the HD2 series.
Hoya is the largest optical manufacturer in the world and has superior technology in manufacturing optical glass. The chemically hardened L37 optical glass showed in independent testing nearly 4 times the strength of normal optical glass. The 1mm thick glass are much tougher than your typical glass.
They then use a proprietary and industry-leading nano-coating consisting of a 16-layer (8 layer each side) process. The procedure yields a multi-coated filter with an exceptionally high transmission curve. The top is a hardened anti-scratch layer specially formulated which is also stain and water resistant allowing for easy care and maintenance.
The HD2 Circular Polarizer has a special High-Trans circular polarizing film claimed to have 41% better light transmission than standard circular polarizing film. It is this that gives the HD2 excellent light transmission capability. It is one of the best in the industry, while not reducing its effect of absorbing polarized light. The entire HD2 series filters have low-profile frames which allows them to be compatible on super-wide angle lenses and standard as well as telephoto lenses. The glass mounts on the frame via a high-pressure press, eliminating the need for a retaining ring, and its attendant tendencies to come loose. The HD2 series was created in conjunction with Kenko Tokina USA and targets the U.S. market.
Kenko Tokina will exclusively distribute the new series.
