New Lightweight and Compact Monopods by MeFOTO Double as Walking Sticks
MeFoto manufactures perhaps one of the most popular travel tripods in the market today. The young brand, distributed by the MAC Group, has a limited but hugely popular style of tripods, and offers it in three sizes branded the BackPacker (smallest), the RoadTrip (medium), and the GlobeTrotter (large). To add to this small but successful product line, MeFoto very recently announced a brand new addition to their existing models. It’s called the WalkAbout monopod.
The attractive new product not only looks great as a monopod, but is also able to double-up as a regular walking stick, which is a secondary intention of the design. The WalkAbout monopod comes in a variety of rather striking colors, borrowing hues from the successful tripod line. The fancy looking monopod even comes topped with a removable compass for when it is not functioning as monopad to a camera. Quite a neat feature.
The new MeFOTO WalkAbout comes in colors red, titanium, gold, blue, green, purple, orange and black. It has a weight capacity of 30.9 pounds, which makes it compatible with almost all cameras you would use a monopod with. A single unit weighs a mere 1.4 pounds, making it convenient to lug around, thanks to its aluminum construction.
A manufacturer’s description appears on B&H and reads as follows,
“The MeFOTO WalkAbout is a 5-section aluminum alloy monopod and walking stick combination that rises to a maximum height of 59.1″, folds down to 18.1″ and weighs only 1.4 lb. The WalkAbout is topped with a comfortable black knob with an inlaid compass for easy reference when hiking. Height is adjustable with twist locks with black accent rings that echo the knob. The removable knob reveals a 1/4″-20 screw that can handle a camera directly or accept an optional tripod head. The top leg section features a rubberized grip and wrist strap while the 30.9 lb weight capacity ensures steady support whether used as a monopod or walking stick.”
The WalkAbout monopod can also be used to hold a mic or your external flash. Purchase yours here for $59.
