Beautiful Aerial Landscape Shots Seamlessly Juxtaposed with Signature Apparel

Joseph Ford surely knows how to do the totally unexpected. In a very precise and curious way, he married his twin passions for clothes and photography, pleasantly surprising everyone in the process. What the Brighton-based photographer did was to fly around the world to capture landscapes for his project. After completing those shots, he would spend upwards of 12 hours meticulously setting-up stylish garments to ‘stitch’ with his aerial shots.

The results are unbelievably amazing and rather bizarre in their seamlessness. The collection entitled Aerial includes apartments in Mauritius fused with green-checkered Boss boxer shorts, Italian train tracks connected seamlessly with a jacket zipper, Moroccan sand dunes mixed with a Kenzo sweater and a pair of worn blue jeans combined with Sardinian clouds.

It was an undertaking that did not seem feasible in concept. Creating a melding between beautiful aerial landscape shots and signature apparel almost sounds ridiculous. It turned out that Joseph Ford was the kind of guy that makes such far-fetched ideas happen.

To start, Ford showed a few aerial images he shot while on advertising assignment in Mauritius, Sicily and Morocco to art director Stephanie Buisseret and stylist Mario Faundez at Paris streetwear magazine, WAD. The three then collaborated to come up with possible matches in olor, fabric and lighting to make virtually flawless merging in each photo.

Not surprisingly, the collection of fused images was chosen for the Association of Photographers Awards in the UK and was given an Honorable Mention in the International Photography Awards. Ford would reprise the theme, teaming up stylist Almut Vogel from Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin to do an additional series of composite photos.

Ford was born in London in 1978. He began taking pictures while he was studying for a degree in French and Italian at the University of Cambridge.  Ford got his first break in 2004 with an advertising campaign for TBWA Paris. Since then he has been fortunate to work for clients around the globe. He shoots mostly advertising and editorial images of individuals on location or in studio. He has also been commissioned to photograph landscapes and aerial images over the last few years.
