Captivating Macro Photography of Snails and the Natural World
Nature-loving Ukrainian photographer Vyacheslav Mishchenko has a knack for taking photos that bring tiny elements from the natural world up close, showing us how the world would appear if we could see it through the perspective of small creatures. Insects like, mollusks, reptiles and amphibians all dwell in these little worlds, and yet we hardly notice them or often forget they even exist.
Mishchenko takes them in such a way that they are placed in our upper consciousness. He shot incredible pictures of unaware snails in their natural habitats, allowing us to observe these unhurried creatures as they go about a typical day.
His images show snails as they are enthralled by droplets of water or while getting intimate with fellow insects in various water environments. He is able to capture the snails as they are engaged in some delightful moments. One can see a pair of snails ‘kissing’, another one gazing into a water droplet on a raspberry as if peering into a crystal ball, while yet another seems to be exchanging pleasantries with a ladybird.
Mishchenko’s curiosity with the minuscule natural world around us started early during his youth. “As a child, my father taught me to hunt mushrooms near my home and we would always come across all manner of bugs and creatures,” he recently said in an interview. “As I got older and my interest in photography grew, I decided I wanted to catch these magical scenes on camera.” As one might expect, Mishchenko has a diverse personal background and has dabbled with a wide variety of art forms. He is accomplished in woodworking and painting as well as other artistic pursuits.
It is without doubt worth paying this multi-talented man’s website a visit and seeing the rest of his prolific work.
