Incredible Aerial Views of the African Landscape and Its Unique Population of Wildlife

zack seckler

Photographer Zack Seckler sure knew how to get attention when he shot his pictures of Botswana from high up in the air. What he came up with is a collection of images that blends the African landscape with its unique population of wildlife.

Seckler, although the architect behind the project was nonetheless just as amused and delighted with he saw from the air, saying, “Being above the ground at such low elevations, and having the ability to precisely maneuver, was like gliding over an enormous painting and being able to create brushstrokes at will. As soon as I saw the landscape from above I knew there was potential to create a special body of work.”

It is a rare, if not one of a kind perspective of the timeless and raw splendor of Africa. Through Seckler’s inimitable perspective, panoramas hidden from visibility while on the ground are revealed in intricate and wonderful detail. Soaring over Botswana and its undisturbed wildlife as well as surrounding beauty, we see the rugged terrain in patterns that redefine our ideas and preconceived notions of this rustic landscape.

“As an artist, the experience was visceral and life changing,” said Seckler.

This rare view gave Seckler the ability shoot images that are both easily recognizable as well as strangely but refreshingly new.  It was an exceptional occasion to photograph Botswana as Seckler was given an unhindered, all-access go ahead to charter an ultra-light plane to get these spectacular views.

The pictures speak for themselves. From this unique perspective, vegetation, animals, in addition to salt ponds look almost unreal and diorama-like. The Botswana exhibition can be viewed from January 15 until February 23 at the Robin Rice Gallery, New York.
