Photographer Photoshops His Pet Pug Shopping in Markets Around the World
The pug is belongs to the category of toy dogs, and it has a wrinkly, short-muzzled face and curled tail. Pugs are quite funny animals. Their unusual look with oversized big eyes for their body size makes them look adorably ugly. Pugs can also look silly as they are not an athletic breed of dog. Nevertheless, pugs were amusing enough to have a role in the “Men in Black” movies, and they are undoubtedly cute enough to merit a photo series. Photographer Michael Sheridan happens to have a pet pug which he decided to incorporate into one of his photo projects.
Pugs emanated from China and were brought to Europe in the seventeenth century. They were made popular in Western Europe by the House of Orange of the Netherlands, and the House of Stuart. This dog breed remains popular well into the twenty-first century, and has quite a few famous celebrity owners. A pug won the much coveted Best in Show at the World Dog Show in 2004.
Using Adobe Photoshop with his shots, Sheridan created the hilarious Planet Pug. While on his travels around the world, Sheridan thought that it would be entertaining to dress up his pug, and put it in a variety of markets around the world.
In Planet Pug, the cute dog even changes its outfit, mostly consisting of headgear, every time it is in a different place. In the photo series, Sheridan’s little dog can be seen selling chilies in Peru, cucumbers in Burma, an assortment of fruits in Guatemala, vegetables in Rajasthan, India and spices in Yemen.
While it is quite obvious that the pug is not actually on location, this does not detract at all from comical theme of the photos. The entire Planet Pug series can be bought online at SmugMug, allowing fellow pug fans to print the photos. Besides Planet Pug, Michael Sheridan’s portfolio is jam-packed with his remarkable travel photography works.
His wildlife and other types of photography are all available on his website.
