We can’t seem to get enough of our cute little canines. In practically every manner possible, we depict these delightful little pooches in ways that range from the adorable to the insane. LA-based Lara Jo Regan happens to be one such dog loving individual. The lady photographer decided to take a different route with her latest series by taking ‘happy’ dogs as they placed their heads precariously out of windows on moving vehicles. This (silly) undertaking is part of a crazy project, all directed towards the effort for her new 2014 calendar called, what else? Dogs In Cars.
The odd and bizarre photo shoot, took place in Los Angeles, California. The main goal was to explore the inexplicable joy experienced by huskies and pugs when they catch a breeze on their hairy faces.
Regan said of the fun project, “I usually try to come up with ideas that are somewhat odd and complex to ensure no one else is doing the same thing. But as an owner of three dogs living in the Los Angeles car culture, the idea was just staring me in the face.” Reagan continued, “Most dogs become downright delirious over a car ride, and I wanted to capture this amazing primal energy in photographs beyond what I’d seen before.”
Reagan began the shoot initially using her friend’s dogs and later placed an online call for particular breeds she had in mind. The shooting was relatively straightforward. Production involved basically three people: a driver, a dog handler and ofcourse, Regan herself. Other shots were done with two cars involved with Regan in one car while shooting the dog being driven on another vehicle.
Although a fine art and documentary photographer, Regan strikes a nice balance between her more cerebral gigs and her animal work. She says her less serious projects not only satisfy her love for animals but they are financially rewarding as well.
