It is an understatement to say that many photographers use Photoshop, that’s why it takes a special flair to stand out from the crowd. Most anyone can import elements into their photos, but few can approach the level of creativity that Buenos Aires-based art director and digital artist Martin De Pasquale is able to achieve.
De Pasquale has been called a Photoshop genius, and you would be hard-pressed not to agree once you see his wizardry. He creates a fusion of reality and fantasy in his photo concoctions, often making dream-like scenarios. His work can range from the whimsical to the gory, and often revolves around the human body.
“As an artist and visual communicator, I am always exploring unexpected visual strategies to convey my idea,” said Pasquale. “The essence of my photos is to visualize the physically impossible in a form of photo manipulation.”
De Pasquale’s surreal images of fantasy are so clean that they fool the mind as the viewer is propelled into a strange, yet delightful place. The Argentinean De Pasquale makes use of a layer technique of joining a sequence of photographs with a variety of Photoshop elements and fuses them collectively to create a stunning visual tour de force in every creation. He is also his own model, as we see him depicted in various weird situations. For instance, we see several Lilliputian images of himself excavating his own heart, or he can also be seen literally screwing his head on where his neck is ribbed with grooves like that of a light bulb.
De Pasquale is masterful at straddling the lines of playfulness and the macabre. His intent is to pose questions to the viewers and the world at large. His growing portfolio includes work with several brands, design studios and photographers from all over the globe. One of his aims is to “shock people or make them smile….”
