Couple Poses for Photos as Tornado Forms in the Background

There are many ways that love can also sometimes be laced with danger. Infidelity, jealousy, possessiveness and other altered states of love can manifest in so many relationships. Having stated that, we are sure photographer Colleen Niska’s version of love with an undercurrent of peril is totally from left field, literally. In a series of pictures, we see a bride and groom pose for the customary pre-nuptial pictures, but not so far off in the distant rural field is an honest-to-goodness twister!

Since these two events (a wedding and a twister) are unlikely to be associated together, these images would certainly qualify as some of the oddest wedding pictures ever shot.

Inclement weather was forecast for the couple’s weekend wedding but since when did a little rain stop a couple from tying the knot? As a matter of fact the Canadian bride and groom along with their designated photographer, Niska grabbed the opportunity to shoot against the backdrop of stormy skies. Ofcourse a twister was never in their expectations.

“We just happened to be at the right place at the right time in good old Saskatchewan, Canada,” said Niska. The series of images show the newlyweds standing, holding hands, even kissing along an unpaved, rustic country road as a conspicuous tornado beautifully twisting in the distance is seen in the background. Niska would have been a fool to run away from this opportunity which he did not. In the images we see the classic funnel of a tornado formed as it touches the ground in the not-so-distant horizon.

“We were a long ways from it and so we weren’t frightened or anything and it wasn’t heading in our direction,” related Niska . “We were pretty excited as none of us had witnessed a tornado before and thought it was a pretty cool opportunity. I wasn’t going to pass on it!”

I am a freelance photographer who is no stranger to smudged lenses, long hours in front of the computer, heavy camera bags (and the back aches that ensued) and missing lens caps. If you know what I'm talking about, you probably have as much love and passion for photography as I do.
