The Disney Dream Portrait Series is a remarkable collection of photographs staged and shot for the Walt Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line’s “Year of a Million Dreams” campaign. No less than the quintessential portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz was brought onboard for the project. To do justice to the work of Leibovitz, some star power was also solicited; completing what is nothing less than perhaps the most extraordinary series ever photographed of these iconic Disney characters.
Leibovitz’s work is characteristically brilliant for the Disney Dream Portrait Series as she shoots some beloved cartoon characters from the roster of classic Disney films. With the help of some familiar tinsel town faces and other celebrities, she transforms these oft animated characters into heart-stopping, real-life versions.
It is breathtaking to see these characters personified, bringing storybook people to life in a way never attempted before. While not all of Leibovitz’s renditions are literal copies of their animated origins, they all contain a magical aura consistent with the unique enchantment of Disney.
The power of the series comes from the combination of both the real life stars and their fantasy counterparts. Leibovitz masterfully wields her enchanting talents to fuse the two, creating the Disney Dream Portrait Series that is indeed exceptional and extraordinary.
Among those in the series are Rachel Weisz as Snow White, Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella, Whoopi Goldberg as the Genie, Julie Andrews as the Blue Fairy and Abigail Breslin as Fira, David Beckham as Prince Phillip, Jeff Bridges as Prince Adam and Penélope Cruz as Belle, Julianne Moore as Ariel and Michael Phelps as a Merman, Gisele Bündchen as Wendy Darling, Mikhail Baryshnikov as Peter Pan and Tina Fey as Tinker Bell and Johnny Depp as who else? Captain Jack Sparrow, just to name a few.
A recent addition to the growing portfolio of work is Academy Award nominated actress Jessica Chastain as the fiery-haired Merida from Brave. It is a truly captivating series that more than does justice to the Disney mystique.
