Ukrainian photographer Anita Anti who is currently based in New York, is making quite a reputation for herself as she creates some credible fairytale like mock-ups in work. Her fantasy-themed portrait photography features female models and animals shot in intense, vivid colors usually set in a scene straight out of a magical fairytale.
Some of the images are taken from well-known stories like Rapunzel, the character of Maleficent, or even Alice in Wonderland, while others appear to simply be her own. She also makes use of shallow depth of field to place more emphasis on her lady subjects.
The majority of her photos are shot in forests that seem to radiate with magical energy juxtaposed against an aura of gloom so typical of these medieval short stories. Anti uses dramatic makeup, extravagant costumes, and theatre-like props to capture imaginative portraits inspired by the fantasy tales.
Lovely young ladies are metamorphosed into enchanting beings and wraithlike characters in these bewitching images, thanks to Anti’s imaginative eye and attention to every little detail. To observe what goes into producing each image, you can view the behind-the-scenes videos on Anti’s YouTube channel.
Anti follows in the footsteps of other photographers who have taken-up the fairytale theme. They are Dasha Kondratyeva, Uldus Bakhtiozina, and Margarita Karyeva, to name a few, who have all created their own images from beloved fairytale themes.
Fairy tales are a type of short story that normally features European folkloric fantasy characters, like elves, dwarves, giants, fairies, gnomes, goblins, mermaids, trolls, or witches, and typically magic or enchantments. Fairy tales may be differentiated from other folk narratives such as legends, which usually involve belief in the accuracy of the events described, and unequivocally moral tales, inclusive of which are beast fables.
