With The Portfolio of Bokeh eBook, I can help to bridge the gap between your vision and your creation by explaining how I approached each of my bokeh images.
Bokeh Photography Tips and Tricks
You already have the creative knowledge to make beautiful images – you may just not know how to tap into that yet. Or perhaps you do, but find it challenging to decide which direction you want to take your image in. With The Portfolio of Bokeh, I can help to bridge the gap between your vision and your creation by explaining how I approached each of my bokeh images. By reading about my camera workflow, you can learn how to critically analyze a scene and decide on the best method to use.
What’s inside this eBook
In this eBook, you will find 22 full page examples of my strongest bokeh images in high-resolution color. Each photo is paired with a full page spread that contains a wealth of information on how I created each image. I discuss many aspects of my creative process – some examples include how I find inspiration, choosing a strong focal point, and the importance of applying photography principles in your composition (such as contrast and symmetry).
I also discuss the technical side of each image – what settings I use, how I compensate for exposure, and how I judge a scene before I decide which methods I am going to apply…for example, how and when I decide a scene needs to be panostitched or auto-bracketed.
It is my hope that by explaining how I photographed each of my images, you can expand your knowledge of bokeh methods, and apply them in the field to create beautiful work. When you’re equipped to handle a situation, you feel empowered and excited about photography – which is the most important part. Landscape photography is about creating for your own enjoyment, and if you can approach a scene objectively and not feel blocked, your creativity will flow and flourish.
Who this Bokeh eBook is For
DO I NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY CAMERA FIRST?
If you’re a complete beginner to photography and have no idea how to use your manual settings, this book is still for you. I have included links to my Photography 101 tutorials which cover all you need to know to understand everything in this eBook, and at no additional cost.
The Portfolio of Bokeh is written from the perspective of a landscape photographer, as that is what I am – but anyone looking to learn how to apply bokeh will benefit from learning my workflow.
DO I NEED TO READ “THE ART OF BOKEH” TO UNDERSTAND THIS EBOOK?
The Portfolio of Bokeh was designed to be an independent eBook from The Art of Bokeh – A Guide to Using Shallow Depths in Landscape Photography. While they are both on the same subject, it was written with an entirely different scope of information.
The Portfolio of Bokeh focuses on the “Why” of bokeh – I discuss how my bokeh workflow was applied in the field to each of my 22 images, and identify the specific differences of each scene that caused me to use certain techniques as opposed to others. It’s more about my inspiration, the internal creative process, and my in-camera workflow. The sample pages above are a solid representation of how the book is written.
In contrast, The Art of Bokeh discusses the “How” of bokeh – where it comes from, how it’s created, and what steps you need to take to change the appearance your bokeh.
